Beauty Out of Babylon is a skateboarding oriented, multimedia platform that showcases a plethora of write ups as well as hosting publishings that are solely image based. Every single one is dedicated to helping to progress our community in a sustainable direction that will allow for many future skater/creator generations. However, there is a special group of individuals who have proven them selves to be above and beyond dedicated to this mission of stoke, and those select few comprise the B.O.O.B. Crew. If you have been paying any attention to previous postings, you will see images of this posse lurking and lighting up their local spots around the country. Until now this exposure has been solely in the form of still photography but I am incredibly stoked to announce a new segment dedicated to bringing those images to life and showcasing the B.O.O.B. Crew's immense talent via moving pictures. This space is reserved for video projects either produced by Crew members or for any footie that is originally mixed and matched in house. This new addition to our publishing categories is meant to supplement our normal Simply Stoked on the Skating segment which features outside material, but also as a way to help further promote a unified skateboarding community.
Without further ado, I am excited to present an original production from the newest official member to the Crew, James Tracey in which proper use of a full quiver is deliciously demonstrated. James knows good skateboarding and doesn't discriminate making his footage some of the most entertaining avaliable to the skateboarding world. I hope you enjoy James tearing up his Southwestern home on a variety of wood provided by our Community Contributor, Bonzing Skateboards. I look forward to expanding upon this column in the near future and thank you for all of your support for this grass roots effort! JAH Bless y'all!
I just felt the need to once again bring the focus of everything that is going on here at Beauty Out of Babylon back to the ultimate reason for the existence of this website. This is not a publication founded to self promote but rather promote those who help to make our community the single best group of individuals on planet earth. Skateboarding is a half way house to all of us who feel like out casts and experience radical disconnect from modern day culture and society. It is, for many of us, the only sanctuary that offers peace and relief from day to day struggles and stresses. Skateboarding grants us a new lease on life and makes the unbearable, bearable again.
I personally owe so much to skateboarding. It has adopted me and completely accepted me as one of its own, even going as far as providing for all of my needs and many of my wants. I have met so many incredible people who I am honored to call my friends now simply because we all enjoyed the simple act of playing with skateboards. Because of all the good and positivity skating has brought into my life, I feel I owe it to skateboarding to honor and protect it from those who want to come in and exploit her for their own personal gain rather than the benefit of the community as a whole. This community based project was constructed for this guardian mission (as well as to educate and stoke out my fellow skate rats) and will not back down to outsiders trying to penetrate our ranks. Skateboarding is OURS and should remain in OUR control in order to preserve it for future generations rather than having it become as washed up as any other "childhood activity".
B.O.O.B. is dedicated to all the homies out there who never have un-torn laces. To the groms who go hungry at lunch in order to buy fresh skate gear. To the Old Heads who still hit up the deep end during Adult Swim. To all the lurkers. To the guys who may not know geometry but can still nail the apex of any mountain road turn. You compose the core of our community and are the fuel for the fire here at B.O.O.B. As skateboarding continues to grow and evolve, I promise that there will always be a voice resinating out of Babylon, fighting for your rights and demanding "Leave Our Skateboarding Alone!". JAH Bless y'all, get out and ride your skateboard now....
Once a year, a gathering occurs out in the Southwestern desert that is unrivaled and unsurpassed as the most fun skateboarding event scheduled for the year. Community and companionship rule the day as homies of all skate backgrounds skate some of the best paved terrain offered on planet earth. I of course speak of the legendary Ditch SLAP hosted by Sante Fe Skate School and am stoked to announce that there will be a heavy BOOB Crew presence when this years SLAP goes down! To help spread the stoke of SLAP awareness, a montage of all the best slap's through the years of competition has been compiled! This documentary is a first of its kind as it pertains to SLAP Life and does an excellent job of showcasing all the excitement that could await you if you commit your self to attending the best event on the calendar.
