With many years under their belt dedicated to R&D, Independent Trucks pridefully brags that this is the most technologically advanced truck they have ever produced and their product will rival and/or surpass any competitors product in multiple areas of scrutiny when it comes to skateboard truck functionality and performance. Only top notch materials are used when casting any size model of their standard Stage 11 series starting from the base plate up. Issues such as wheel bite and greater grind clearance are just a few of many factors that were addressed in the latest design release from Indy by using professional feed back from their elite team of riders and by exploring the short comings of their previous stages. You can be sure that plenty of conscious thought was given just as to what real skateboarders will demand out of their trucks and then these thoughts were manifested and implemented through rigorous testing, ultimately deeming this line up of Indy trucks shred worthy for any and everyone. Indy did a fantastic job of finding the equilibrium between strength and weight by using 356-T6 aluminum for the hangers as well as baseplates rendering the operator with a light set up yet a set up that is strong enough to handle a brutal punishment. These aluminum hangers are only made stronger by the 4140 Steel axle which adds lots of rigidity while still offering light weight properties. All of this is attached to the base plate by a solid grade 8 king pin that is going to be harder to break then your Great Aunt Bertha's nasty cigarette habit. Leaving clearance for wheels 56mm and under while running riser-less/wheel well-less and all the while still maintaining control over the ever allusive wheelbite is yet another structural design that was rendered necessary for production of these beauties. And as if all of this wasn't enough to sway you, quality is ensured one of the only ways possible: by keeping production of Independent trucks in the good ol' US of A.

Independent did not want to leave any riders out when they crafted their "generic" line up of trucks which shows in the range of sizes produced offering 129,139,149,159,169, and 215 respectively. Common problems arise for the every day ripper when trying to decide upon which size truck to mount on their freshie deck that they just picked up. The issues that you'll want to avoid are pairing trucks that are either to small or to big for your current ride which will result in an unstable platform in the scenario of to small trucks or having wheels that stick out from under neath your deck which can result in wheel bite and other hang up related issues. To help alleviate some of these issues from surfacing, Independent has recommended board sizes to correspond with each truck in their line up.
Truck Size Board Size
It should be noted that these recommendations are subject to wheel size and board shape but are a very good rough guide as to what size truck you will need in order to ensure a proper fit to the sled you currently are shredding. With such a wide variety of truck sizes, any and all types of skating are possible on the same line up of truck while not having to sacrifice any performance capabilities from any one discipline while using them. The use of high quality urethane for the bushings as well as pivot cups delivers a jank free set-up so whether you are hitting up the local skate park, bombing a scenic run, or just trying to get a few more ledge tricks in your arsenal, Independent has a truck that will fit any and all of your shred sleds.
As a skateboarding company, Independent trucks are absolutely not a one trick pony. Their roots run deep into the pioneering of almost every type of skateboarding being practiced today. All types of skateboarding are able to be accomplished by using the correct size Indy to fit your set up along with the endless customization options when it comes to bushing combinations. For the past 8 months or so I have been riding a set of stage 11 169 Indy's on the multiple boards that have come and gone from underneath me in that time and I can say that every board I put them on was able to be used to its maximum potential. The amount of board feel and control offered by these trucks is insane but the real key is the confidence instilled by the quality that this product is constructed. It allows skateboarders to focus on progressing their skating rather then worry about the potential pain that results from equipment failures. I have taken these trucks with me to various skate parks up and down the east coast, ridden them daily in the indoor wooden Eastern Skateboard Supply skate park, and even have taken them down a hill during a pursuit of speed and I can honestly say that they did everything I could have asked them to do. To maintain the responsiveness of my Indy's, I replaced both the bushings and pivot cups after 3-4 months with more Independent urethane which breathed new life into my "old" set which is something I would highly recommend doing to ensure you maintain the highest level of performance possible. After grinding concrete, steel and pool coping, and anything else skate-able I have worn away enough of the hanger that the axle is clearly visible. Even after reaching this point I still have found absolutely zero effect on the grinding performance or the over all rigidity of the truck.
Although the grinding capabilities of these trucks are incredible, they are not the only feature that make them top tier in their respective world. These trucks offer stability at speeds that is hard to find an equal too when talking about stock straight outta the box trucks. There is no bushing upgrade needed to handle hills (although I am not discouraging it one bit!) and skating even the tightest corners of bowls or pools is a dream with how fluid these babies turn. I have found confidence to attempt lines containing copious amounts of speed while skating bowls simply because I know the flow characteristics of my trucks and I know they go where I tell them too. Its no coincidence that a majority of the set-up's owned by #ESSCrew members house a set of Independent trucks; they are a high performance machine that has stood tried and true and I highly recommend that you test a pair out for your self, you won't be disappointed.
The beautiful thing about skateboarding is that there is absolutely no wrong way to approach it, as long as you're stoked on the results you're doing it right. All set ups are permissible as far as Beauty Out of Babylon see's it and experimenting is always encouraged but sometimes when delving into a new discipline of skateboarding or trying out a new piece of equipment its nice to have a set up that is known to be kosher.
